I don’t know what these pointless questions should help to get a proper information about the quality of a road for cycling.
The informations I need are at first the quality of the road surface, maybe how many lanes, where the tram rail is located or similar information. But not just a fuzzy feeling riding along the road.
Thank you Daniel for your comments
The information that you require, about the road surfaces and tram lines, is already collected and published on paper maps by organisations such as ADFC and BUND in Berlin. These maps are available for purchase at the ADFC store in Mitte.
The crowd-sourced bike was an ‘experiment’ to collect and analyse information which is not normally collected and in particular rate streets in relation to the 4 different type of cyclist groups. I am particularly interested in the less confident cyclists and the ‘latent’ demand. We have had more than 4000 people participate in rating streets on the map and enquiries from people in more than 20 countries. If we did this again, and I am sure we will in other cities in the very near future, we will amend the questions. As with all experiments it takes some adaptation.
I am happy to speak via phone or Skype to discuss further the questions that you would have asked, because all feedback is fantastic.
Thank you for taking the time to comment
hi, I really like that approach, and would use such a tool on a daily basis, if.
If, of course, I get an Android app thingi for this, in a desktop form it´s rather useless, for the whole approach looks like instant/no-preperation/make detours as you like, and so on tool.
And of course the rating should be a lot more flexibel (tag based?) with like a beginner mode (current form) and an expert mode.
Thank you for your comment and great feedback
Lots of people have emailed suggesting apps.
The bike map was an “experiment”. As it has been so successful John and I hope to develop this much further with perhaps apps too. We have also been approached by some crowd-funding platforms.
I like the idea of the beginner and the expert mode and would like to speak to you in more detail about this offline, if you have time.
Thank you for your comments and please stay in contact
